The McGregor Family Centre

THE MCGREGOR FAMILY CENTRE, run under the auspices
of the P.O.N.D.O. Village Children's Trust, was started by Eve
Bryant in April 2001. The aim was and remains to provide support
to vulnerable children and their families within the community.
The Centre's goal is to reduce child abuse and neglect in the
village and surrounding rural area, by empowering families to
break the cycle of frustration, despair, alcoholism, domestic
violence and apathy.
Since its inception, the McGregor Family Centre
has gone from strength to strength, developing day care and after-care
activities for younger children, youth programmes aimed at teaching
life skills to young people, and adult education work projects
including a highly successful sewing project. The Centre's Holiday
Activity Week is open to all the children in the village, and
has become a highlight of the year for many.
The MCGregor Family Centre cricket team, victorious again,
and made up of children whose physical and psychological disabilities
have prevented them from taking part in formal school sports.
The Centre has a growing team of dedicated and committed
childcare workers, and the results they are getting speak for
themselves. Children with learning and motor disabilities, children
with no self-esteem as a result of coming from severely abusive
backgrounds, children who are often underfed and underclothed,
and left to fend for themselves while their parents are under
the influence of alcohol, are slowy blossoming under the careful
nurturing and tutelage of these young people.
"When a child looks into your eyes, he can see his
own beauty in your reflection."
- H. C. Lyon
The McGregor Family Centre is completely dependent
on donated funds. The work they do in the community is beyond
price. Please consider helping,
either with time or financially.
