Financial Situation

The McGregor Waldorf School is now in its 13th year. Due to the poverty in the area, most students are unable to pay full fees – yet the school has survived and flourished. Government sponsorship is small and so currently we are dependant on private sponsorships, donations and fundraising initiatives. However, we do have long-term plans to change this situation.

Sponsorships

Since 90% of the children’s families have an income of about R1000 (100 Euro) per month it is obvious that they are only able to contribute a small amount of their school fees. It is imperative to the function of the school that you choose to contribute to the school fees of an individual child.

The Setting up of Businesses

In order to make the school less financially dependant on sponsorships and donations, we are setting up businesses. These will:

Raise funds for the school, the profits being reinvested in the school to cover running costs.
Give employment opportunities for parents within the school (Parents are given the first option to be employed before other residents)
Provide students with opportunities to work, and in so doing learn about the working of a business and improve their skills base.
